Alan Mathison Turing: Father of the modern computer:

"Turing is often considered to be the father of modern computer science. He provided an influential formalisation of the concept of the algorithm and computation with the Turing machine."

His genius probably helped advance computer technology by about 20 years. Think about it. No Turing, you probably wouldn't be reading this right now. You would be looking at a calculater, spelling "80085" and thinking how wonderful technology is...

Well guess what?:
In 1952 he "was arrested and convicted of 'gross indecency' because he was a homosexual. His brilliant career was destroyed, his service to his country was ignored and he was hounded throughout the rest of his life until his death by suicide."

Bigotry killed him. If you are an ignorant bigot, remember that everytime you use a computer it was a homosexual that brought it to you.

Now there is a Campaign to get UK government to apologise for hounding Alan Turing to his death.
