TC Helicon VoiceTone Create: Tutorial

(scroll down past image to see the tutorial)

Holy cow the instructions on how to use this thing are cryptic as hell!
I tend to have good luck figuring out this stuff, and since I couldn't find any other help
online I thought I'd post my own.

TC Helicon VoiceTone Create
SuperEdit Tutorial

I got this mainly because I use a lot of live Delay effects on stage, that I hate to have to trust a sound tech to hit at the right times. I’ve been doing it myself on stage for 13 years and it’s worked out pretty well so far. Here is what I did to get the effects I needed:

1. Familiarize yourself with the not very specific directions that come with the pedal 1st.
2. Go download and print yourself a copy of the Super Edit Mode Manual. It’s not very helpful by itself, but I’ll hopefully get you where you need to be. There is a copy here:
http://www.tc-helicon.com/media/VoiceToneCreate_SuperEditMode(1).pdf
3. I wanted a normal delay effect. I used another effects processor for reverb and compression, so my main thing here is Delay:
a. Make sure the “Mix” knob, is set to about 2 o’clock. 12 O’Clock is okay too, but it’s seems like the effect is a little stronger at 2. If you dial it all the way clockwise, things just don’t work well.
b. I turned it on by plugging it in, without pushing any buttons or anything.
c. I made sure Performance 1 was lit (If it isn’t press the button above “1” and it should be steadily lit, not blinking.
d. I dialed the Patch knob to 21, which had the closest delay I could find for what I want, even though the tempo is all off, and the delay was much too quiet.
4. Now that we figured out what we are going to work with, unplug it.
5. Hold down the #2 Performance button, and while still holding it down, plug it back in. Keep holding down the button until all the flashy lights quit flashing, once they do let go of the button.
6. Let’s adjust the tempo of the Delay.
a. Is the light above the right footswitch on? If not, press the foot switch so it comes on.
b. Again, make sure you are on Performance 1, then dial the Patch Knob to 21.
c. Here is the super edit part (finally!): On the Super Edit Mode directions you downloaded, towards to bottom of the 2nd page it should start with “Parameter IDs”, it continues on for 3 pages. On the Pedal, when you turn the knob labeled “X” it will scroll through these numbers. Since we want to change the tempo of the delay, twiddle the knob around until you get to #22 (You sometimes after turn it all the way in either direction to get the numbers to change). If you look at the list, you will see that Parameter ID 22 is “Delay Tempo”.
d. Now, to adjust the tempo, turn the “Y” knob and experiment by talking into a mic to get the tempo you want.
e. Once you set that how you want it, push and hold down the Performance 3 button, until it blinks, that means your work is saved.
7. Now let’s adjust the level of the delay.
a. Turn the “X” Tweak knob until you get it on # “14”.
b. Experiment with the “Y” Tweak knob until you get the right Delay level.
c. Once you set that how you want it, push and hold down the Performance 3 button, until it blinks, that means your work is saved. Woo hoo!

If you are done editing, then be sure to unplug and re-plug in the pedal so you get out of super edit mode, otherwise you are libel to cause some havoc. If things get too scary, you can always restore to factory settings by holding down Performance Button 5 in super edit mode. This will kill everything you’ve saved though. Hopefully now you get the idea on how to program the Parameters. I really haven’t messed with the others yet, go nuts with it if you want, I’m too worried about screwing up the sounds, so I haven’t messed with them yet. I probably will though, but on other presets that I won’t be using live.

Copying and pasting presets:
Now that we created a delay I’m happy with, I need another one with the same level but a different tempo:

1. I had already checked out preset 22, and it sucks. I don’t know when any one ever would need ping ponging delay, so I’m going to kill it with this edit:
2. Plug in the pedal so that you are in super edit mode again. Make sure Performance “1” is chosen, and dial the Patch mode knob back to Patch “21”.
3. Hold down the left footswitch unit its light blinks, then let it go.
4. Turn the Patch mode knob to “22”, then briefly push the left footswitch. Patch 21 settings are now also set to 22.
5. Press and hold down the Performance “3” button until it does its blinky thing so that it is saved.
6. Do edits as above to change the Parameters to your liking. Don’t forget to hold down the performance 3 button to save it when you are finished.

Cool! Now, I assume you are performing, and you have 5 different effects you want to use during a show, and you don’t want to have to bend over and turn the little patch knob every time you want to change patches? So do this:
1. Plug in the pedal in normal mode (don’t hold down any buttons when you are turning it on…).
2. Make sure Performance “1” is chosen.
3. Make sure you are on Patch 21. This is the first patch we programmed. If Performance “1” is blinking, hold its button down until it stops. That saves it there.
4. Hold down the left footswitch until “A” and “B” lights are both lit up.
5. Then Click the left push and quickly release the left footswitch, it should Light up the performance #2 button.
6. Twiddle the Patch knob until you find Patch #22, the 2nd one we programmed. Press and hold the blinking #2 button until it stops blinking, that saves it there.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for performance buttons 3, 4 and 5.

Now each Performance button can also be programmed to have 2 different Patches, (patches A and B). Press the left footswitch so that you are back on Performance button 1.
1. Press and hold down the left footswitch until A and B are no longer lit. “A” should be lit.
2. Click the left footswitch once quickly so that now Performance “1” is lit, and “B” is also lit, but NOT “A”. Program the B setting following Step 6 above, making sure you save your changes by holding down the blinking Performance button “1”.
3. So now by quickly clicking the left switch, you can go from the Patch saved on A, to the Patch Saved on B. When you are ready to go to another Performance button (“2”, “3”, “4” or “5”), just like before, hold down the left footswitch until it blinks, and then you can click the left footswitch to go to them. Once you are on the Performance button you want, again, hold down the left footswitch and so on.

That’s it, hope this helps. I know it can be frustrating as hell, but hopefully you can figure it out. Feel free to email me with questions, or corrections.
